Annie Yun Bai

Founder and Club Counselor
Annie Yun Bai is an active member of the Confidently Speaking Toastmasters, Mississauga, Ontario. Annie joined the club since 2007, and served as the club president of 2016-2017 and let the club to become the Club of the Year in District 86 and rank 2nd in Canada and 14th in the world in terms of the number of educational awards achieved. She was awarded the President of the Years awards. In 2018, Annie achieved the ultimate designation for a toastmaster, Distinguish Toastmasters award.
 
 
Annie Yun Bai is the founder and club counselor of the Mississauga Gavel Club, which is a youth club affiliated with Toastmasters. The club has been successfully run since 2015, helping children from age of 12 to 17 to improve their public speaking skills and leadership skills.
 
 
Annie Yun Bai is one of the sponsors and founding members of one local advanced Toastmaster club, the Great Minds Advanced Toastmasters Club, which is to help experienced toastmasters to further enhance their skills not a more supportive and challenging environment.
 
 
Annie Yun Bai is one of the founding members of the newly chartered community club, the Miracle Chinese and English Bilingual Toastmasters club (MCEBT). This club is to primarily support local Chinese community by providing a less intimidating platform to build their confidence on speaking English as their second language.
 
 
During the recent District 86 Spring conference held on April 12 to 14 2019, Annie won the first place and became 2019 District International Speech Champion.

Shirley Richards

Club Members’ Mentor

Shirley has been a toastmaster for 8 years and is currently a member of Great Minds Advanced Toastmasters.  She finds the Toastmasters’ environment a very safe and welcoming place to develop both her communication and leadership skills. Shirley loves to travel and will take the opportunity to visit and to present speeches in foreign places. An experience that forces her out of her comfort zone.

For the past year,  Shirley has been actively involved with the Mississauga Gavel Club and has gained a deeper respect and appreciation for the younger generation. She thoroughly enjoys the time spent with them and feels honoured to be considered the Club Members’ Mentor.

Melanie Pereira

Outreach & Guest Event

Melanie Pereira has been a Toastmaster for six and a half years and recently achieved the Distinguished Toastmasters Award. She thoroughly enjoys being a Toastmaster and the confidence she has gained through the experience. For her, this is not the end but just the beginning, it’s an opportunity to give back by volunteering and also expand her horizons because Toastmasters has opened doors for self-development.

Saumya Surti

Gavel Club Committee Member

Saumya Surti is a passionate public speaker with over 6 years of experience. In the past, he has enjoyed hosting speech workshops at the University of Toronto, coaching speakers for conferences through TEDxUofT, and has taught accelerated summer public speaking courses for high school students. In his free time, he enjoys going thrift shopping, playing the guitar, volleyball, and going to the gym.

Tiffany Chen

Tiffany started with her Toastmasters journey since 2012.  Since entering Toastmasters, she finds the program challenges her to outperform herself. She believes mastering communication is a life-long learning process. She achieved the Distinguished Toastmasters award (DTM) in Sept. 2019.

Anam Biabani

Gavel committee member

Anam Biabani is a 4th-year student at McMaster University, pursuing her Bachelor of Health Sciences. She is passionate about theatre, debate, and the art of speaking. She hopes to integrate these skills into healthcare to improve equity and dismantle barriers to care. In her free time, Anam enjoys spending time with her younger sisters, travelling around the world, editing videos for her YouTube, and journalling her ideas!
